Digital Inclusion and Equity

Public sector digital services must work for everyone—no exceptions. At What We Make It, we embed equity and inclusion into every project to ensure no user is left behind. Accessibility is more than just compliance—it’s about understanding socio-economic, cultural, gender, and age-related factors alongside technical needs. Our inclusive design methodology ensures that your digital services meet the needs of all users, fostering greater engagement and trust.

Our work includes projects with the Nova Scotia Status of Women Office, where we integrated elaborate and inclusive designs into a training program and curriculum, and the MyPath Portal for the Nova Scotia Department of Education, which supported equitable access to educational opportunities for students with disabilities. We’ve also collaborated with Saint Mary’s University’s Fred Smithers Centre for Student Accessibility to improve accessibility in their digital platforms with an Accessibility Audit.

SERVICES WE OFFER:

GBA+ Design Methodology: Embedding a participatory, equity-centered lens to account for diverse user identities, needs, and barriers.

Accessibility Audits: Interdisciplinary reviews of websites and digital materials from technical, design, marketing, and user experience perspectives to ensure WCAG 2.2 AAA compliance as well as the diverse inclusion of users.

Accessible Prototypes: Designing and coding prototypes for user testing that comply with WCAG 2.2 AAA and other standards.

Inclusive Design: Creating interfaces and materials that represent all users, regardless of their abilities or identities.

Digital equity isn’t just about meeting requirements—it’s about building services that truly serve everyone. We believe no user should be left out or left behind.
